STABS ANOTHER. THEN TRIES
TO TAKE OWN LIFE

His only avenue of escape blocked by an armed man after he had murderously assaulted Petrono Perez, Jose Alcolo, a Mexican cotton picker, turned his weapon, a long-bladed knife upon himself and calmly plunged the dagger-like instrument into his breast. The double crime was enacted on the O. H. Pierce ranch, three and one-half miles west of the state fair grounds on the Christy road, about 11 o'clock Sunday morning. Both men are now in the Sisters hospital, near death. Perez was stabbed more than a half dozen times, once in the back, once in the right arm and several times in the chest. The chest wounds, however, were not serious. Alcolo, in his attempt to cheat the law, held the weapon over his left breast with the left hand while he hit it with his right. Twice he drove the blade into his body, but missed the heart both times. His condition is critical.
