After the assassination of his father Robert Lincoln conceived an utter dislike for politics, and resisted all the importunities of his friends to bring him forward as a candidate for office. Some ten years ago he was admitted to the bar, and has since quietly practised his profession in Chicago. The recent developments of corruption among the politicians of that city filled him with such disgust that he consented to become a candidate for the office of Town Supervisor, in the interest of honest home government. He was elected, and his influence is looked to as a guarantee for a better administration of local affairs in the future.
