Howard Women Hear Mrs. F.D.R.

WASHINGTON, D. C. -(NNPA)

It is harder for men to think in terms of working with the rest of the world than it is for women because men have been doing things alone for so many years, Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt told a group of Howard University women last Tuesday afternoon.

Speaking informally after she had "dropped in" on the women practicing their litany for the annual Women's Day Exercises, Mrs. Roosevelt told the students they as women, had a double responsibility to change such a situation.

Commenting on her work in the United Nations, she said the United States is getting a "scrutiny" from foreign governments such as this country has never had before and the most hardened of us are beginning to feel it."

Mrs Roosevelt said-that she had been particularly embarrassed during sessions of the UN by the lynchings in Georgia. She said various members of foreign delegations came to her with papers showing stories of the lynchings and asked her "What does this mean"?

She said she would never be happy until all minorities had the same full rights of citizenship as all other groups.

Mrs. Anna Arnold Hedgeman, assistant Dean of Women, introduced Mrs. Roosevelt to the students.
