Or Clayton Southern II organist and conductor and head of the department of music at Dillard University where annual Christmas musicale last week was held one of the best programs of the season. Recently Mr. Southern made southern musical history when he appeared as guest soloist with the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra in the first time in history that a colored symphony orchestra had a Negro artist as guest soloist. The concert
sponsored by the Crescent Concert Company a Negro organization in the Crescent City. The Christmas musicale consisted of traditional carol organ solos a credo (of Rossini) and excerpts from Handel's The Messiah. Mr. Southern was assisted by Carol Blitton and Frances Whilton pianists, and the University choir with Mamie Reason and Glenn Smith as soloists. Throngs of grateful tones were set on this program he will give soon in Cuba too.
