Full Text
Judge Jenkins, of Jefferson county, Pennsylvania, decides that parents who send their children to the public schools surrender all authority over them while there, and cannot in any manner interfere with the course of studies or the discipline to which they are subjected by the school law. Under that law the Commonwealth undertakes to educate the children of the people. The State organizes the schools, provides the accommodations, supplies the teachers, and devises the course of studies. All who accept these privileges are supposed to surrender a certain amount of control over their children the moment they place them within the jurisdiction of the school laws. Judge Jenkins merely reiterates what has long been known as the law in the premises.
