Full Text

The French press is completely enslaved. A work has lately been published in Paris, called the European Censor, in which some of the acts of the government, in the abstract, were moderately censured. For this publication, Messrs. Comte and Dunoyer have been fined 3000 francs each, and imprisoned one year; Renaudiere fined 1000 francs, and the work suppressed. The Constitutional, a Parisian newspaper, has also been suppressed, merely for alluding to the "picture of a child, bearing in his hands a very large bouquet of roses," and remarking that these roses were known in Germany by the name of "do not forget me." The Bourbons supposed the allusion meant more than met the eye, and had reference to the young Napoleon; therefore the journal was destroyed!
