6 Per Cent Boost Won By Seafarers
New York. (FP) - The Seafarers Intl. Union (AFL) won a 6% increase in wages and overtime rates in negotiations with 12 Atlantic and Gulf steamship companies, it announced here March 12. Agreement was reached after two days of talks scheduled under a wage reopening clause in the contract, which expires September 30. The 6% increase was the same as that awarded to the Intl. Maritime Union (CIO) recently by an arbitrator, but SIU spokesmen said their agreement included additional benefits, including a rate increase for standby work and raises in travel and subsistence rates.
