JUDGE MCLEAN. The N. Y. Gazette, soi-disant neutral, thus "sounds the alarm" at an anticipated movement on the part of the Whigs, to nominate Judge McLean for the presidency:
"For the character and competency of Judge McLean we have as high a respect as for that of any candidate that either party could offer; but while this journal takes no share in party politics, it befits its position as an armed neutral, boldly to sound the alarm when dangers of this kind threaten. The nomination of a judge of the Supreme Court as the political head of this nation, by either of the great parties—or by any party or faction whatsoever—is a piece of indecency, the mere meditation of which should be scouted."
