Accounting for the Result.

The following is a 'special' to the Chicago Times from Columbus, under date of October 14th. The writer of it undertakes to account for the late election. Hear what he says:

The Abolitionists are celebrating their triumph to-night with bonfires, illuminations, torch-light processions, cannon and speeches. Brough's majority will reach twenty or thirty thousand. That this result surprises Democrats is folly to deny. Never was a party more sanguine. They considered a result largely in their favor certain, with no influence at the polls. They were not prepared for the tactics adopted. While the Abolitionists were busy in demonstrating a pretended scheme of Democrats to colonize voters, and were active in guarding the borders, they were busy bringing votes into the State by thousands. The large vote will surprise every one.

The Democrats will foot up nearly all the votes they expected,—some few in the principal towns having sold out to shoddy. But, as to the secret Loyal League, they have been able to distribute money and men to supply deficiencies exposed by enrolling officers. At least twenty thousand soldiers voted in the State in citizens' dress, exclusive of those in camps and in uniforms. For days have they poured in by the thousands, armed with furloughs and Brough tickets. The negro regiment at Delaware unblushingly voted, and negroes all over the State voted at every Abolition poll. Having polled every township by the aid of enrolling officers, it was easy to supply the requisite number to overcome any imaginable majority. A hundred thousand more votes would have been made, if necessary.

At polls where there were Democratic judges, men never before seen swore to all the facts of citizenship and residence required. Money was lavished as if from a factory for the purpose. All the manufacturing establishments insisted upon a vote for Brough from each employee or gave a discharge.

We have been beaten by a perfect knowledge of the number of votes required and an army of free Americans of African descent and shoddy contractors from whom to get all that were wanted. A licentious interference of the Administration with the purity of the ballot in the State has overcome the will of its citizens. People are used but as tools to register the decree of an arbitrary Administration.
