Extract of a Letter from Whitehaven, Aug. 31.

The Cornelia, a Snow from Bergen, bound to Dumfries, with Deals, &c. was brought into this Port, on Tuesday the 26th Instant, by the Sincerity, Capt. Dowe. The Captain suspected her to have some contraband Goods on Board, went in Pursuit of her in our Channel; and on sending his Mate and Men in a Boat to board and examine her Cargo, the Master and Factor of the said Snow, before they could come up to her, went off in an open Boat for Scotland, and left the rest of the Crew, Ship and Cargo, as a Compliment to the Captain.

Since she has been brought into our Harbour, there appears to be on Board, besides her lawful Freight, contraband Goods to the Amount of One Thousand Pounds: So that the whole Ship is look'd on as a lawful Prize.
