LONDON, April 5.

The Public may be assured, says a Correspondent, that the
Appointment of General Gage to the Government of the
Massachusetts-Bay proceeds entirely from the Goodness of the
King.

A Correspondent felicitates us on seeing realized the Idea of
a Patriot King. His Majesty has proved himself so by dimis-
fing, contrary to the Advice of the P---- C----r, and the En-
deavours of a most wicked, impudent and flagitious Scotch Law-
yer, a Traitor who was hardy enough to advise the Curtailing of
English Liberties.

April 6. A great Quantity of Tents and Camp Equipage
are ordered to be embarked for North-America.

A correspondent thinks, that if a late Change of the Gover-
nor of Massachusetts-Bay had been prompted by any Regard for
the Sentiments and Rights of the People, General Gage would
have been sent with the Olive-Branch in his Hand, and not
with the Boston Port-Bill and hostile Instructions in his Pocket.

The Petition of the American Gentlemen to the King against
the Boston Port-Bill was presented to his Majesty by the right
Hon. the Earl of Dartmouth, Secretary of State for the Colonies.

It is said that the Thane is consulted daily and hourly by a
certain great Personage; no favourable Omen this to the Rights
and Liberties of the Subject.

Orders it is whispered have been given, or will be in a few
Days, that no Fire-Arms, Swords, &c. be permitted to be ex-
ported from hence to America, or elsewhere, for three Months
to come. These Orders will not affect the Americans, for they
have plenty of these Instruments of Death.

April 8. A Correspondent desires to be informed, whether
it would not be advisable to establish a Parliament in America
for all the Colonies. & choose the centrical Place for that Purpose.

By a Calculation lately made, it will cost Government not
less than 12,000l. to make a commodious Harbour at Cacco-Bay.

It has been estimated that during the unhappy Disagreements
with the Colonies, Great-Britain, exclusive of the Government
Duties, has sustained a Loss of more than 500 Guineas per Day.

The Bostonians have declared, that rather than submit to the
Tyranny of the Mother-Country, they will abandon the Sea Coast
and associate with the Native Indians in the back Country.

There is no extraordinary supply of Military Stores or Camp
Equipage ordered to America, nor is it the Intention of the Mi-
nister to act with Severity, if it can possibly be avoided.

We hear that it is intended to ship a fresh Cargo of Tea for
Boston, and to send it thither with a Military Force.

General Paoli, it is reported, has lately refused the Offer of
an Employment in America.

Governor Hutchinson, as soon as he arrives here, Report
says, will be knighted; and also be promoted to a considerable
Post in Administration.

General Gage, it is said. has the most extensive Commission
whatever any Governor or Commander was invested with; but
from the known Humanity of that Gentleman, there is no Rea-
son to fear that he will make any farther Use of it than what
Duty and Justice prompts him to.
