The Elks of Greater Miami Temple No. 769 are jubilant over their numerical and financial success on Sunday at the Mary Elizabeth Hotel when they staged their annual Fall coffee and style show. Quite an elaborate program was rendered by the most outstanding talent of Miami. Among the platform guests were Elk Myrtle Davis, Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler Bro. Booker T. Dunn, past grand Elk ruler, Josephine Dunn, Rev. and Mrs. I. C. Mickins, Mrs. Alice Dean, Elk Elizabeth Espy Johnson and Elk Ruler Ellen Taylor.
Hundreds of friends and well wishers attended. Seats were not available. Those familiar with the hotel did their best to find chairs.
Elk Deputy Marie White, from a loud speaker, urged the daughters to give up their seats to their guests.
Elk Josie W. Roberts proved her skill as a musician when she presided at the piano. Elk Elizabeth E. Johnson was gorgeous and graceful as she spoke of the Daughter Elks in this present day crisis. The entire program was long to be remembered. Huge beautiful silver service adorned two lengthy tables with beautiful sandwiches and other delicacies.
The style show was the best in history. The expectant mother modeling the latest in maternity attire brought forth much laughter. The sale of tickets was large and was a sell-out several days before the affair took place. Elk Olivia Rogers, Elk Eliza Donaldson, and Elk Sibyl Boggis were in charge of ticket sales. This group sold several hundred tickets and made an excellent financial report.
The beautiful purple and white programs were made possible by Elk Alta Screen, Elk Olivia Rogers, Elk Johnnie Hill and House of Albert. Elk Elks representing Liberty, Antlers and Pride of Fort Lauderdale Temples were presented. At the close of the program, the deputy announced that Greater Miami Temple had a pastor, the Rev. I. C. Mickins, who would give the benediction.
Notes Elk Florence Durden was called to Georgia because of the illness of her father. Elk Betty Fisher is up and out much to the delight of her daughters. Dr. Sarah Smalley is an ardent worker, she never gets tired. Much thought to Elk Fannie Mae Moton has just donated $10 to her temple. Elk Myrtle Davis is kept quite busy filling speaking engagements. She is a good speaker, one within her own rights. Elk Mallie Hunter has been placed on the Calendar for the 500 Tea. Florida has produced some of the best speakers in the nation and Greater Miami Temple boast of Mallie Hunter, Elizabeth Espy Johnson and Myrtle McLeod Davis.
