The music lovers of this community may look forward to a highly enjoyable evening on October 26th at Sheldon Jackson Junior College Auditorium when Jeanne and Joanne Nettleton, the celebrated young duo-pianists, will be presented in the opening event of the sixth season of the Alaska Music Trail.

The identical twins -- whom Artur Rubinstein labeled as "terrific", and who were hailed by the New York Herald Tribune as a "bright, gay and accomplished addition to the ranks of duo-pianists" -- have chosen a program which contains an unsurpassably brilliant and varied assortment of the best known masterpieces of two-piano literature.

Beginning with a Prelude and Chorale, "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" by Bach and followed by Brahms' Variations on a Theme by Haydn -- the program will traverse a number of the most popular works for two pianos, including the Perpetuum Mobile by Weber, a Romance from the Suite by Rachmaninoff, and Chopin's Rondo.

Of special interest on the program are two excerpts from Copland's ballet, "Billy the Kid", arranged for two pianos by the composer, and entitled "Billy and His Sweetheart" and "Celebration after Bill's Capture". As original is the "Introduction and Dance" by Eugene Hemmer, composed for the Nettleton Twins and given by them its first performance in Cincinnati in 1950: a work based on American folk-songs, which includes the "Kentucky Devil's Ten Questions" the dazzling and glittering Scaramouche by Milhaud, which in its final movement, "Brazileira" presents a Samba. The famous Brazilian dance-rhythm will usher in the final group, one that through Ravel's exotic Spanish Rhapsody and two Polovetzian Dances from "Prince Igor" by Borodin, will culminate in the transcription for two pianos of the Blue Danube - perhaps the most popular waltz that has ever been written, and one loved throughout the world.

This program is the one on which the Boston Herald commented: ".... some of the words that rush to mind in reaction to the playing of these young artists are vitality, enthusiasm, beautiful tone, musical intelligence and thrilling skill in execution......"
