Full Text

Having seen an advertisement in the Gazette, signed Stanislas, tending to injure Mr. Brunel—as also one anonymously written, for the same purpose, I last night went to visit his performance, and must acknowledge that I never saw deceptions played off more neat: the whole of the tricks were done in a manner I think it impossible to excel, particularly the watches and card; but above all, the conveying the glove, reticule and handkerchief to the place appointed—the person appointed to go for them had actually left the theatre five or six minutes previous to the things disappearing from the stage, and he positively found them at the place appointed, which was done by lottery. I feel no hesitation in saying that those advertisements were put in for the purpose of injuring Mr. Brunel, and to prepare the way for Mr. Stanislas.
