Dixon Schools to Open Aug. 30; The Staff Announced

DIXON—School will open here this year on August 30. The first day will be a half day and buses will leave at noon to return all students to their homes. The hot lunch program will start Aug. 31.

Registration of high school students will be at the school office from Aug. 23 to 27.

Returning to the school faculty this year will be: Mrs. Tom Davis, 1st and 2nd grades; Miss Dorothy Gulliford, 3rd and 4th grades and 7th and 8th art; Mrs. Alice Wolfe, high school, English, girls' chorus and librarian; Mrs. Fern Cary, 5th and 6th grades.

Heading the list of new teachers this year is Supt. Stewart Smith. In addition to his superintendent duties, he will teach social study courses in high school. He arrived in Dixon last spring at the conclusion of the school term at Thompson Falls where he was principal of the elementary school. He has a masters degree in education from Montana State university. He is married and has a family and resides in a house at the U. S. Flathead Agency.

Other new faculty members this year will be: Robert Cramer, MSU, science and math in H. S. and basketball coach. He formerly taught at Turner; is married and has one son. Herbert Smail, Univ. of Oklahoma, shop, 7th and 8th grades and football coach. He previously taught at Lauren and Billings; is married and has two sons.

Miss Helen Zeh, commercial subjects. Miss Zeh was with the military government in Berlin, Germany. She has had nine years of teaching experience and has also had experience in the business world.

Mrs. Mae Priddy will again be in charge of the hot lunch program, and Charles Kennedy will continue as maintenance engineer and custodian of the school plant. He has been doing maintenance and improvement work throughout the vacation period.

Among the numerous improvements this year will be a 40-gallon hot water tank in the hot lunch room; a new section of portable bleachers for basketball and football, and a number of new desks in various rooms.

The faculty will begin the season's work with a social get-together and pot luck supper at the National Bison range, Friday evening, Aug. 27.
