Gold Mines.—It is astonishing that the people of North Carolina are just finding out the wealth of their state. We have been credibly informed, that a company recently purchased a tract of land in the county of Buncombe, for which they were to pay upwards of $4000;—erected the necessary machinery for mining, and in three weeks paid for the tract of land, and cleared other contingent expenses; since which time, the same company averaged $1500 worth of this precious metal weekly, clear of all expense. It is thought the mines in the counties of Buncombe, Burke and Rutherford are richer than those in Mecklenburg. Gold has been found in several places in this and Chesterfield district, and no doubt, if properly sought after, would prove probably, as profitable as any.
