ARE YOU READY
FOR THE FAIR

The Last Three Days of Next Week Will Tell The Story-All Depends on Weather

But one week remains before the thirteenth annual fair of the Mahnomen County Agricultural society. Present indications promise a most successful fair-contingent of course on the weather--over which no one has any control.

Among the features that have not yet been mentioned is a repetition of the cow calling contest, which was staged last year, the winner of which will get a silver plated cow bell, the same prize that was given last year. The machine age has changed so many things on the farm, even to the dairy end of it--but cows are called in the same old way. No substitute has been found to take its place. Any man, woman or child may take part in the contest. Volume of voice will be figured by the judges as 30 points, the carrying quality 30 points, musical quality 10 points, and the appeal (in the imagination of the judges) the call would have on the cow at 30 points. Contestants may use any call they desire, and have as much time as they want. But no speech-making will be allowed. Those contemplating getting into the contest should commence to practice up a little and get in touch with the secretary, Dr. Rumreich.

Another feature of the fair that has been growing and that now promises to be one of the real features of this as well as future exhibits, will be the work and exhibits of the members of the 4-H clubs of the county. Under the leadership of Mr. Grove the boys and girls belonging to the club, have been at work all summer getting their calf, pig or sheep, ready to show. There is a keen but good natured rivalry between the members of the clubs and they will be ready for the judges when the time comes.

The carnival feature, for those who want entertainment of another kind, will not be overlooked. There will be five big rides, including the ever present merry-go-round, a new and improved machine, and a mammoth tilt-a-whirl. With the company there will be seven shows, and various other amusements.

The free acts, given daily, are especially good.

Then for the first time there will be some harness races. Secretary Rumreich has been busy the past week getting the drivers interested, and has been successful. We have always had some good running races, by local horses, but never before has any attempt been made to get the trotters and pacers to use the track, which has been put in good condition.

The grounds are in better shape than ever before, and every effort is being made for the comfort as well as entertainment of patrons.
