Interesting services were held at Bethel Lyceum last Friday evening. A well written paper was read by Mr. James Bonner, subject, "We cannot live on the past." Resolutions condemning the editorial of the Evening Telegram of the 21st instant, relating to the Whalak riot in Mississippi, were read by Charles E. Brown, and discussed by Mr. James M. Carter, J. A. Bonner, James Davis and Miss McKenzie. The resolutions were adopted and copies ordered to be sent to the New York press. The constitution to govern the lyceum was also adopted after much discussion. The election of officers followed, and James M. Carter was elected president; Miss A. Johnson, vice-president; Wm. Reeves, secretary; Miss Drucilla Long, assistant secretary; Mrs. Clayton, treasurer; Mrs. Frances Favor, organist; Messrs. King and Freeman, librarians and Mr. Charles E. Brown, critic. Sunday's exercises were not as interesting as might have been expected. The most pleasing features were the solos of Miss Annie Smith and Mme. Jeminez. The newly elected officers will take charge of the lyceum next Sunday at 3:30 P. M.
