The cries of the distressed poor have reached the ears of the great, not only the King from the throne recommending, but the patrons of our liberties planning and preparing, schemes for the relieving their present hardships; and it is confidently reported that some worthy Members of Parliament, having taken into consideration the grievance the poor manufacturers labour under from the high price of candles (being obliged to spend more than half the produce of their industry for candles to perform it by) propose their relief by taking off the duty from this essential article of life, as light is as necessary to the manufacturer and artificer to guide them in their business as bread is to strengthen them to perform it.
