All the Children want to go to Church next week. And all the late-sleeping adults, too. They'll all darken the sanctuary doors for the weeklong services and festivities of Christmas.
There will be treats for the Children, solemn and beautiful Candlelight services, the old traditional Yule Carols, and general Carolling.
All uptown Lincolnton churches are planning special programs—and most of the suburban churches, too.
PRESBYTERIAN
The week will begin at the First Presbyterian Church Sunday night with a candlelight service at 7:30. Wednesday evening at 7 o'clock, the church's annual Sunday School Christmas Party will be held for adults and children, with the distribution of treats to the kiddies. The children's classes will put on a special program of poems, songs, skits, readings, and special music, and the Christmas tree will be the center of the party. On Thursday evening, beginning at 6:30, the young people of the First Presbyterian Church will conduct a "progressive party," put on by the Senior High Fellowship. And on Christmas Eve, the church youth will go Christmas caroling through the community.
METHODIST
At the First Methodist Church, the annual Christmas pageant will be unfolded Sunday night beginning at 7:30. The church's annual Sunday School Christmas program, with treats for the children, will be Wednesday at 7:30 p. m., and on Thursday, the Christmas Week at the First Methodist Church will be climaxed by an impressive candlelight service. The church has erected at its front entrance a large Nativity scene.
BAPTIST
There will be a candlelight service Sunday at 7:30 at the First Baptist Church to usher in Christmas Week. The choir will render a Fred Waring choral arrangement of "Song of Christmas" by Rinwold. While the candles gleam, a spotlight will be focused on a large stained glass depiction of the Nativity Scene. First Baptist will have its annual Christmas party for the children Wednesday evening, with treats for all the young ones. Adults will attend, too, for the regular midweek prayer service. Sunday evening, Dec. 26, will be "Student Night at Christmas" at First Baptist, with the service being conducted by Lincolnton college students home for the holidays.
REFORMED CHURCH
There will be an elaborate Christmas pageant Sunday night at 7:30 at the Reformed Church, directed by Alec Barringer. The church now is completing an impressive Nativity Scene. On Christmas Eve at the Reformed church there will be a candlelight service.
LUTHERAN
Sunday at 5 p.m. Christmas Week will begin at the Lutheran church with the annual Sunday School Christmas program. Featured will be an original pageant entitled "In the Year of Our Lord," written especially for the service by Miss Sarah Yoder. Friday night at 9 o'clock, the church will hold its annual Yule candlelight service, with appropriate decorations.
