A BLESSING TO THE SOUTH.

The Manufacturers' Record, a paper published at Baltimore in the interest of the South has made a specialty of collecting facts concerning Southern progress, improvements and investments, and has special facilities for obtaining that kind of information. Following is statement of new enterprises put on foot within the last two weeks:

"The Birmingham Mineral railroad has added $500,000 to its capital for extensions and additional rolling stock. A railroad will be built between Montgomery and Anniston. A new 100-ton furnace is commenced at Birmingham by the Thomas Iron people of Pennsylvania. Contracts have been closed for 50 miles of piping to convey natural gas to Louisville. The development has begun of 13,000 acres of eastern Kentucky coal land. Richmond, Va., is to have an extensive spike mill and a rolling mill combined. Roanoke, Va., sold nearly $700,000 of land last week. New Orleans reports a $100,000 mining company. Atlanta a $100,000 cotton mill company. Chattanooga a $50,000 company to develop river transportation in connection with iron interests, etc. South Pittsburg a nut factory, and many other small enterprises in various parts of the South."

Commenting on this the Indianapolis Journal says: "So much for the success of the Republican party and the policy of protection to American industry. The election of General Harrison was a blessing to the South, the extent and magnitude of which its people will realize more fully as time passes."
