Full Text

Extract of a Letter from Carlisle, Oct. 3.

"A few Hours ago came to town a certain De Haven from Conogoching, who informs us, that on Monday Morning two Sons of William Armstrong, near Loudon, were ploughing, and being called home to breakfast, they left a Boy in the field with the plough. As they came in sight of the House, they observed Indians about it, upon which they tacked about to return to their ploughs, and take off the Boy, but found he was gone; hereupon they fled to Loudon. He further says, it was reported, that the rest of said Armstrong's Family were missing; and that 19 Indians had been seen in three parties in that Settlement, ten in one Body, seven in another, and two in another.

As many of the Over Hill Inhabitants were gone and going to labour for a Fall Crop, this Report, if it proves true, (and generally these Reports are found so) will greatly discourage the poor people, and I am afraid prevent many from labouring for their next year's bread."
