PRE-SCHOOL CLINIC PLANNED IN APRIL
Health Department To Examine Children Starting to School In Fall
The annual pre-school clinic for children who will start to school for the first time next fall, will be held next month, Dr. A. D. Gregg, Vance county health officer, announced today. The purpose of the clinic, which is free to all children of pre-school age, is to examine into the physical condition of every child who will start to school next fall. The assistance of the parents in rounding up these children was urged by Dr. Gregg.
Dr. Gregg appealed to all parents whose child will enter school for the first time next fall to furnish the name of the child to the principal of the school to be attended, or to the president of the school Parent-Teacher Association. The parents then will be notified of the date on which to present the child for examination. It was explained also that the presence of the parent at the clinic is very important, as a complete history of any previous illness the child may have had will be asked, for the record and also any preventive treatment that has been given. This card will follow the child through its first three years of school life, and gives a record of the child's physical condition. The school card records the child's age, weight, general nutrition, condition of teeth and tonsils and all vaccinations given.
Herefore this work has been done in the summer, but the date is being advanced so that it will be possible to have the assistance of the teachers, Dr. Gregg explained. It also gives the parents time to have any treatment that may be found to be necessary, before school starts in September.
"We wish every child to enter school as free as possible," Dr. Gregg said, "from any physical condition that would hinder progress in school."
The health officer said a newspaper notice would be carried in the Daily Dispatch telling of the dates for the clinics in the various schools of the city and county.
