Florida Students Made Blue Keyers
Early one morning recently down at the University of Florida, 21-year-old Lewis Ansbacher was awakened by a group of fellow students crowding into his room.
For a moment the Jacksonville senior law student couldn't figure what was up. Then one of the group said a few words, and pinned a blue ribbon and key on the lapel of Ansbacher's pajama coat. It was all clear then.
Lewis, at an all-night session of the Florida Blue Key honorary leadership fraternity, had been one of 13 students tapped into the society, Florida's highest honor group.
The only Jax to win the coveted Blue Key, Lewis is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Ansbacher of 1341 Avondale Avenue. In his more than six years at Florida, he has been extremely active.
To become a Blue Key, a student must have been active in at least three extra-curricular fields.
Lewis has been a student director of intramurals, secretary-treasurer of the athletic council, a member of the student body president's advisory committee, secretary of Alpha Phi Omega, service fraternity, and a member of the John Marshall Bar Association, as well as of the Jacksonville Club, Cavaliers and Tau Epsilon Phi. He also served on the committee on student orientation and relations.
His mother, understandably proud of her son, termed him a "plugger." He has worked his way through school, she said, waiting on table and officiating at high school football games throughout the state.
He is one of two Jewish second lieutenants in Florida's R.O.T.C. and an honor student with better than a three-point average.
He will graduate with a law degree in June of next year.
Since receiving the Blue Key, young Ansbacher has received numerous letters of congratulations. One was from another Jax on who was a Blue Key man at Florida a number of years ago- Representative Charles E. Bennett.
