Charleston, July 7.

FROM FLORIDA.

The packet boat Eclipse, Foley, arrived here on Sunday in two days from St. Mary's and Amelia Island. By this arrival we learn that the news of a Declaration of War had reached that place, and that Commodore Campbell had in consequence taken possession of five British vessels lying in Saint Mary's river, viz. the ships Emperor and Experiment; two brigs; names not recollected, and the schooner Adventure. The four first were loaded with timber, and nearly ready for sea, the latter was in ballast—they had been sent up the river for greater security: The beacon had been taken down, and all the buoys on St. Mary's bar removed, by direction of Commodore Campbell, to prevent British vessels of war from coming into that river. There were no British armed vessels off St. Mary's when the Eclipse came out, but capt. F. saw a brig off St. Simons, which he took to be a British brig of war, and a large ship off Sapelo. There were two Spanish armed schooners lying at anchor off the port of St. Augustine, after having landed a reinforcement of troops for that garrison. The American troops before that fortress had been reinforced by the Volunteers from Savannah; but no engagement had yet taken place: It was reported that the Americans intended to make an assault upon the place on the 4th of July: Great uneasiness was manifested by the people of Amelia Island, for the safety of their property.
