We hear that on the 21st of last Month, seven Men, viz. Josiah Johnson, Sampson Hunt, Thomas, Silas, and Luke Osgood, and --- Moors, all of Erving'shire, and Henry Houlton of New Salem, being at the Falls above Deerfield, on the Fishing Design, got into a Canoe, in order to cross the River, but the Canoe overset just above the rapid Water: Two of the Men, viz. Johnson and Thomas Osgood reach'd a Rock and sav'd themselves: The Violence of the Current took the others; Moors was lodg'd on a Rock down the first Bar and taken off alive; Hunt and Silas Osgood were drowned; Houlton and Luke Osgood kept hold of the Canoe and were wonderfully preserved, being drove ashore a considerable way down the River.
