With Local Fifth War Loan Drive At Halfway Mark, Total Is Reported Considerably Behind Normal Pace--Two Women Pace Effort Here.
Although the Fifth War Loan drive is nearing the halfway mark, sales of series E Bonds are lagging considerably behind what might be called a normal pace. Purchases up to this morning have barely reached the $60,000 mark. Chairman Elmer J. Major issued a statement to the effect that over $11,000 daily must be forthcoming if the $250,000 quota is to be met before the end of the drive on July 8. One extremely bright spot in the E Bond sales is the exceptional record made by the Polish citizens. Mrs. Louise Pempek and Mrs. Eva Ziobrowski have worked untiringly and much to the credit for a large portion of the E Bonds sold to date must be given to these two women, who have presented a shining example of team-work and industry in doing more than their share to put over the 5th War Loan.

The bond sale in Putnam is not going to come through to send the drive over the top, but the plain truth of the matter at this stage is that bond buying must be greatly speeded up if it is to be successful.
Workers are active in every phase of stimulating sales, therefore a much better report on the progress of the drive is anticipated in the near future. Results from the various mills, stores and other campaigns are expected to swell the Bond totals, but nothing short of complete support on the part of the people of Putnam is required to make certain that we carry our load and Back The Invasion by pushing the Fifth War Loan over to a banner finish.
