LAST WEEK'S OMISSIONS

RHODE-ISLAND

PROVIDENCE, March 6.

The re-accession of Mr. Madison to the Presidency was joyfully celebrated by the Republicans of this town on Thursday last. At half past seven o'clock, a numerous and respectable company sat down to a sumptuous entertainment, prepared at Mr. Auprich's hotel, at which the Hon. James Fenner presided, assisted by Col. Henry Smith, Gen. Philip Martin, Col. Thomas Coles, and Sylvanus Martin, Esquire, Vice-Presidents.—As a mark of respect for his distinguished talents and meritorious services, the Hon. Jonathan Russell, late Chargé des Affaires at the Courts of St. Cloud and St. James, was invited by a committee appointed for that purpose, and attended as a guest. On no occasion, we are confident, has the gratification of a convivial assemblage been more complete. The following toasts were given, accompanied by appropriate tunes from the Columbian Band, and responded with high approbation.

1. The Fourth of March, 1813—We venerate the voice of the majority, and renew our vow to live free or die.

2. The United States—May the citizens of each remember, that their allegiance is due to the whole.

3. Thomas Jefferson—In 1800, he snatched from the rude hand of usurpation the violated Constitution of his country.

4. James Madison, President of the United States—Dignified by the abuse and buffetings of Traitors to their country.

5. Elbridge Gerry, Vice-President of the United States—In 76, he defended Independence with the vigor of youth: he now shields it with the wisdom of age.

6. The memory of George Washington—His axiom is, "our union is the Palladium of our safety:" We will remember thee, our Father, and seal that sentiment with our blood.

7. The Heroes who fell in the first war of Independence—Their memory is insulted by the treason of the present day.

8. Our Western Brethren—Assailed by the red and white Savages of Canada, we sympathize in their sufferings.

9. Our Ocean Warriors and the Heroes of the Lakes: a bright example for the Soldiers of the North.

10. "The proud mistress of the ocean"—She has at length found her master.

11. British religion—The revenue of Juggernaut supports a Christian ministry, purchases American Ships, supplies the piratical Algerines, pays British press-gangs and Tory presses.

12. The Citizens of Rhode-Island—They will disdain a neutrality which is treason to their country to a lesson for their Rulers!

13. Party spirit—May it be absorbed in the love of our common country.

14. The Peace Party—Precisely what the British Government would form in all countries but England.

15. An honorable Peace—To be obtained only by a Vigorous War.

16. Treason and Hemp—May they ever be One and indivisible.

17. "Free Trade and no Impressment".—Let the flag be nailed to the mast.

18. Our eminent fellow-citizen, Jonathan Russell, whose quiver has an arrow for the Eagle of France: and the Lion of Britain.

The last toast was drank by the company standing, with three times three, when Mr. Russell arose, & substantially observed:—

"I feel with great sensibility and gratitude, the unexpected honor which you have been pleased to do me, in remembering me in your toasts on this occasion. That man indeed has a right to be proud, who, when he rests from his public labors, receives the approbation of his fellow-citizens—for it is the best evidence that he has done his duty. I regret most sincerely, however, that my humble efforts to preserve the peace of our country, were ineffectual.—But what could be expected from the usurper of the seas—from a nation, who, deaf to the voice of reason, and disregarding the obligations of justice, measures her pretensions only by her power! She has chosen her ground, and left us no alternative, but to meet her on that ground; she has compelled us to prove, that the strength and spirit of this country, vigorously and gloriously called forth and exerted, are our only negociators for an honorable peace"

A number of volunteer sentiments were offered, which we have been unable to collect. At an early hour the company retired, without an incident having occurred to mar the general glee.—Patriot.
