On Monday the 18th Instant Captain Bull (one of the Messengers of Peace sent by this Government to Kuskuskey, a great Indian Town, on Beaver Creek) came to this City, and informed, that they were most kindly received by the Indians there; and that he had brought a very agreeable Message from them to General Forbes. He also advises, that the Escort which the General was pleased to send with them, consisting of fourteen Men, under the Command of Lieutenant Hayes, in their Return unfortunately fell in with a large Party of French and Indians, who were going back from the last Skirmish near Loyalhanning, when a smart Engagement ensued; but our People were overpowered by Numbers, and the Lieutenant, and four Men, were killed, five were made Prisoners, and the other five escaped. The Indians designed to have burnt one of the Prisoners, a Serjeant, for one of their People they said they had lost at Loyalhanning; but Captain Bull hearing of it, spoke to some Delawares, who interceded for the Man, and got him saved.
