The readers of the DEMOCRAT will of course read on the first page the Grant funeral obsequies in New York city on Saturday. His memory was honored the country over, Canton not being behind in honoring the distinguished dead. Grant's death has brought the two sections closer together, for both join in mourning for the great departed. In New York city the procession was about eight miles long, and it took General Hancock three hours after starting to reach the park. Generals Sherman and Johnston rode together; Wade Hampton and Senator Manderson in the next carriage, and so were north and south mixed and mingled. May it so continue. Let us have "a more perfect union." with justice established, liberty secured, domestic tranquility, and the rights of all maintained.
