WIN OVER W.O.W. FIVE
Marking up its second victory in as many starts, the Marion high school basketball team trounced the Pleasant Gardens Woodmen of the World team 40 to 18 here Tuesday night. The Marion five led the scoring throughout the game, but completely outclassed the visitors in the last half, marking up 24 points to seven for Pleasant Gardens.
The local team had previously been scheduled to meet the North Carolina School for the Deaf team here Tuesday night, but N. C. S. D. postponed the game because of sickness at the institution.
Kaylor of Marion was outstanding for the locals, accounting for 16 of the 40 points. Gibson of Marion was next with seven points. Poteat led the scoring for the visitors with nine points.
Last Friday the Marion high team won its first game of the season, defeating Cliffside there 33 to 17. The season-opener was a double-header, the Marion girls losing their game 33 to nine.
Friday night, January 17, the Marion teams resume their schedule meeting Morganton here in the Community building at 7:30 o'clock. The game promises to be one of the toughest of the season for the locals.
Next Tuesday night the teams travel to Hickory for their fourth game of the season.
