FATHER DIVINE LAYS OFF
New York, Nov. 3.-(U.P.)Voting was unusually light in Harlem, the city's great Negro district, today because Father Divine, Harlem evangelist, ordered his flock to stay away from the polls.

The Spoken Word, semi-weekly organ of the Divine movement, printed this order for the flock:

"I say the time has come; we must stay our hands until I give you the command. No doubt it will be 1940. Not one of the major parties, officially and nationally, or conventionally, has come to me and accepted of my righteous government platform."
