Victory! Victory! Victory!
VICTORY COMPLETE & OVERWHELMING.
IMMENSE REPUBLICAN GAINS!
ELECTORAL TICKET, 1,100 MAJORITY IN CEDAR CO.
Amendments to Constitution, 600.
Democratic Candidate for "Clerk of the Circuit Court" probably ahead! and still their faces are so long and sour that sweet milk curdles in the farthest corner of the cellar when the door opens to admit one to the wood shed.
Numbers of them going to Kentucky where "Niggers" don't vote, and there isn't so many infernal Schools and Churches.
An idea of the gains in this county can be had from the following figures, brought from the several townships by special messengers on Wednesday morning: Center, 126 Republican majority—gain of two from last year; Dayton 139—gain of 27; Fremont, 84—gain of 37; Farmington, 104—gain of 40; Gower 108—gain of 20; Iowa, 28—gain of 1; Inland, 75—gain of 30; Massilon, 51—gain of 25; Pioneer, 31—gain of 45; Springfield, 73—gain of 34; Sugar Creek, 53—gain of 18; Fairfield, 15.
The townships giving Democratic majorities were Cass, 32—loss of 6; Linn, 4—gain of 8; Red Oak, 7—gain of 5; Rochester, 15—gain of 9.
These figures show a total Republican majority for Presidential Electors of 1,079. The comparison is made with the vote of '67 for Governor, and shows a total gain of 273.
Mr. Elliott, against whom all kinds of machinery had been set in motion, did not run behind his ticket any considerable number; and the boasted gains in this county for Lefingwell were all on the other side of the house, Smyth receiving a full majority.
Impartial suffrage was carried by at least 500; and in this, the hour of so great and good a victory, we will say nothing of the weak-spined Republicans, who acted upon the promptings of a blind prejudice, in thus withholding their support from so plain an act of justice.
