Full Text

While Messrs. Amos B. Miller and Chas. Hatz were returning to town in a buggy last evening about 8 o'clock and as they were driving along Locust street, the horse ran upon an embankment made by ground having been thrown from a sewer that is being dug in that street. The horse, buggy and occupants were all thrown into the sewer together, and a good deal of the ground caved in over the horse, who kept himself from being covered by treading the dirt beneath his feet. After much trouble the horse and buggy were taken out of the sewer, the horse and occupants badly injured and the top of the vehicle mashed. There was no signal to give warning to those driving along the street at night, consequently the gentlemen were unable to see the embankment or sewer.
