Union Men Wearing Them During Past Season Unfair to Principles.
Every workingman or other person who wears a straw-hat in the summertime is wearing non-union products and patronizing scab-labor, according to reports of hatters' delegates to the State Federation of Labor convention being held in this city today.
With the opening of the morning's session late reports from the district delegates were heard. When it came to hearing those from the Danbury Hatters. the question of fair and unfair hats was raised by those present upon a motion for information. It was reported that no hat is fair unless bearing the trade label of the United Hatters of North America and likewise no cap is fair unless similarly labelled by the cap-makers.
It was stated that upon dictates of the Secretary of the American Federation of Labor. no straw-hat manufacturer in this country is recognized by the federation. In consequence of this edict every union man who has worn a straw hat during the past summer has been untrue to the advocated principles of unionism.
