Full Text

On Saturday an examination took place at Boston before Judge Davis, of Captain Alexander Drew of Nantucket, charged with the murder of his second mate, Charles H. Clark, on the high seas, near the coast of Peru, on board the ship John Jay, a Nantucket whaling vessel, on or about the first of September last.

Several witnesses were examined, and it appeared that Captain Drew made an assault upon his second mate and stabbed him with a knife in the cabin, at the breakfast table. The Captain had ordered Mr. Clark upon deck, who said he would go when he had done his breakfast. He was told to go up then, or he, Capt. Drew, would help him up. He was rising to go when he was stabbed. After lingering about a fortnight, he died.

Cap. Drew was brought home in irons, the first mate having taken charge of the vessel, which arrived at Edgartown last week. The prisoner was fully committed for trial.
