ABRAHAM THE EMPEROR.
The proclamation by Abraham Lincoln which we give below if submitted to by the Northern people makes him to all intents and purposes a military dictator. Every vestige of freedom is blotted out by this proclamation and the people are placed under the iron rule of a despot. If the Northern people are prepared to abandon all their own freedom and to become the slaves of a tyrant in order to make the experiment of freeing the negroes of the South, we would suggest that they ought at least to elect a man of higher order of talent, of more cultivation and refinement, than the baboon who is now attempting to assume that power, and who is constantly disgracing himself by his foolish letters and speeches. Why do they not at least select a man of capacity sufficient for the position, such as McClellan, Halleck, Buell, or some other of their distinguished military men. A military despotism such as Lincoln is attempting to establish, should be under a man of great military and civil talent, neither of which he possesses.
