A Paris correspondent of the New Orleans Picayune writes as follows:

"We have a man in town whose proper place is among the curiosities of the Exhibition. He is Dr. Howe, of Boston. He is on his way to Crete with $18,000 or $20,000, collected to encourage the Cretans in their insurrection. He admires nothing so much as an insurrection or rebellion, his hero-worship admits no gods but rebels. He fought for the Greeks, he was imprisoned for the Poles, he contributed money for the Italians, he applauded old John Brown's incendiary attempt in Virginia. The only insurrection he thought damnable, the only rebels he thought devils, not gods, was the recent Southern war and the recent Southern leaders. Desolation and confiscation were too good for the South, hanging and exile were too merciful for Southern leaders. Like most Northern men he admires insurrection—think it holy and a sacred duty—unless it be directed against his notions. He is infallible; opposition to his opinion is damnable."
