Full Text

Washington, June 11. We learn that Return J. Meigs has resigned the office of Postmaster General of the United States. His successor is not yet designated.

It is stated in the New York Newspapers, in an authoritative tone, that Mr. M. was removed from office. For this statement there is no foundation. The President, in accepting this gentleman's resignation, which does not take effect until the first day of next month, did it in terms of acknowledgement and consideration for his patriotic services, especially in the late war.
