W. S. Bell, of Sacramento, has done considerable prospecting for copper in the mountains between Humboldt and Churchill counties, and recently while testing some green looking rock, he found no copper, but a base of nickel with a copper stain. He went out again last week and was interviewed by a Reno Gazette reporter. He says he has three veins of ore, one almost black by being stained with cobalt, iron etc., one stained green by copper, and the other a gray or natural nickel color. He says his rock yields from 8 to 38 per cent. nickel, while the only other mines known only work between 2 and 24 per cent. His mine has been developed by nature itself, as old, worn water-ways cut the veins hundreds of feet deep, and expose sections of them to the sun. He has had four men at work for several weeks, and is going to ship some of the ore to Liverpool, New York and Philadelphia. His claims are in the I X L range, 69 miles north of the mines, 45 miles from Oreana and Lovelocks, and about twenty miles from Unionville.
