Full Text

FREDERICKSBURG, July 27.

The following truly melancholy and distressing circumstance, was obligingly communicated to us by a friendly correspondent : About three years since, Wm. Clift, a resident of King George's county, was unfortunately bit by a mad dog, as also several dogs, cattle, hogs, &c. which in a short time died ; the unfortunate man, never, until within a few days past, when he was seized with the first symptoms, which increased and affected him in a most distressing manner. A sight perhaps more horrid could not present itself to the human imagination, than to see him, with savage rapacity, unfeelingly, dissever his own flesh like a cannibal, and howl like the poor brute that stung him, until repeated convulsions terminated his existence. At different times in the interval since he was bit, until his last attack, he has shown some signs of melancholy.

The above is a lamentable proof how long the horrid infection of canine madness will lay dormant in the human constitution, and at last break out and destroy the unhappy victim.
