The editors of the organ of the "Young Democracy" are again in fault, in their paper of the 12th instant, in regard to the "true-blue democrats" of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, who, allied with the whigs and abolitionists, have been the most implacable enemies which the really true democracy of that State have had to encounter during the last three years. They say that Mr. Greenleaf (who was then the editor of the recreant "New Hampshire Gazette") kept the name of Mr. Calhoun flying at the head of his columns a year before the presidential nomination was made. That is all true. Both he and Gov. Hill kept the names of both Mr. Calhoun and Mr. Woodbury at their editorial heads, against the wishes of these two eminent gentlemen, as the writer of this well known, and for the very honest purpose of deceiving their readers as to their true design, which was the division and defeat of the democratic party of that State. They were, in truth, pirates under the disguise of an honest flag, waging war and depredating upon their own kith and kindred. And such are the "true-blue democrats" which the conductors of the organ of the "Young Democracy" hug to their bosoms. Tell it not in the Granite State.
The "Journal" is also in fault as to the writer of this communication, whom they pronounce to be no friend of Mr. Woodbury. So far from that, he is, and has always been, the political and personal friend of that distinguished gentleman; and, for the benefit of the editors of the "Journal," and to save them from the mortification of a similar faux pas to the one they have committed in reference to the democrats of Portsmouth, I will just inform them what I know to be the fact—viz: that Mr. Woodbury not only approved, but recommended the appointment of Mr. Jenkins as collector of Portsmouth.
In conclusion, I would like to know of the editors of the "Journal" if the "Young Democracy" is to include only the old cast-offs of the party, who have received at its hands all they ever merited, and, when they can get no more, turn against and endeavor to rend it to pieces? It is important to know what is understood by this term; because, if it is to be taken in the sense which the editorials of the "Journal" would imply, I can assure the conductors of that paper that they will have precious few of the young democrats of New Hampshire in their ranks. They will prefer to go with the "Old Hunkers" a little while longer.

Main Argument
the letter criticizes the 'young democracy' editors for praising disloyal portsmouth democrats who allied with whigs and abolitionists to undermine the democratic party, defends the writer's longstanding friendship with levi woodbury, and questions whether 'young democracy' includes only party cast-offs seeking to destroy it.
