DAY OF PRAYER FOR MISSIONS

At the Edgefield Methodist church on Friday afternoon, February 16, the Woman's Missionary Societies of the Presbyterian, Episcopal, Baptist and Methodist churches held a union prayer service in response to the call from the Federation of Woman's Boards of Foreign Missions and our own Woman's Council.

After a hymn, responsive reading, and prayer, three five-minute talks on "The Woman Who Gave," "The Woman Who Prayed," and "The Woman Who Loved," were given by ladies of the different churches -followed by several prayers and special music.

Miss May Hixson, a missionary from Shanghai, China, who has been teaching in McTyeire School for twelve years and is now home on furlough, came over from Augusta, Ga., and made an address at the close of the devotional program.

It was a great privilege to have this consecrated worker with us. She told of the new McTyeire High School, of the primary work at old McTyeire where she teaches, of the eagerness and earnestness of her Chinese girls as students. of their devotion and faithfulness as Christians, of the new Union Medical School for Chinese Women at Shanghai. Something of what the other denominations were doing there. Through it all was a note of joy and optimism assuring us that our efforts for the Chinese are appreciated by them, and that those who are reached are being truly regenerated.

There was inexpressible sadness in her face and tone when she said that there are 60,000 children in Shanghai who do not go to school and have no chance.

Have you noticed what beautiful faces our missionaries have? So sweet, so bright, illuminated surely by the inward transformation that comes from a life entirely consecrated to God.

Sunday morning Miss Hixson talked to the Methodist Sunday school.

Mrs. T. H. Rainsford.
