It is now I think three years since I bought a Ticket in a Lottery, called the Potomac and Shenandoah Navigation Lottery, Second Class; and for three years I have been kept in suspense as to its fate. For some time it formed the subject of my waking thoughts and of my morning dreams. Often have I, in anticipation, distributed a moiety of the highest prize with justice and liberality between my creditors and my friends; and often balanced the merits of the different stocks in which I thought of vesting the remainder which such a disposition of it would leave to my future wants. But, alas! I grow old whilst the Lottery stands still: my good intentions stop the mouth of no dun--my friends are ignorant how liberal I intend to be. I hope those who have the direction of this matter, will commiserate my distress, into which I am sure all lottery-adventurers will feelingly enter, and put an end to my suspense by putting an end to the Lottery. In the hope that, by your favor, this will meet their eyes, not knowing how else to address them, I am, yours sanguinely,
SAMUEL SOFT.
P. S. As there is no knowing how long I may be kept out of this high prize, do you think I should stand as good a chance in that great Lottery, the Baltimore Surgeons' Lottery, I think they call it? If so, do you think the drawing will be ended whilst I retain the capacity to enjoy my success? Your answer will oblige.
[Our correspondent has puzzled us in his Postscript; but, upon the most mature reflection, we are of opinion he will have about as good a chance in the one scheme as in the other: as to his living to enjoy his success, perhaps the news of it would not prolong his life.]
