The regular monthly session of the fiscal court was held Tuesday and considerable business was transacted. County Engineer Moseley and Justices Rogers and Estes were appointed a committee to expend the remainder of the $4,000 appropriated to build a pike on the Crofton road as they deem proper. County Judge Prowse was authorized to draw warrants on the Sheriff to pay the expenses incurred in an effort to suppress the smallpox epidemic in the county. Sheriff Renshaw will make settlement for the year 1908 and report same to the court on the 2nd day of March instead of Feb. 1. W. J. Murphy, supervisor of roads, was authorized to employ an overseer for the purpose of working county prisoners on the public roads until the regular February meeting of court. The Champion Bridge Co. was allowed $1,465 for completion of the steel bridge over West Fork, near Barker's Mill; $475 for same over Coal Creek, on the Bald Knob road, and $375 for furnishing and erecting a bridge over Castleberry Creek, near Crofton. Other miscellaneous claims, amounting to about $300, were allowed. The reports of J. G. Hord, poor commissioner; S. T. Myers, poor house keeper, and W. J. Murphy, superintendent of roads, were received and filed. Harrison Campbell, col., was released from payment of poll tax.
