Tristam Burges, although a very mean man in his dealings and transactions with his fellow men, can be very lavish in his expenditures for the gratification of his personal desires, or the furtherance of his inordinate ambition. He has witnessed his climax—has passed his perihelion. But he will spend ten thousand dollars to effect his election to Congress. Hence we find the State inundated with, 'morning hours;' extra Journals, and Congress speeches, which were never delivered. But it won't do, friend Tristam—you have had your day—more than you ever deserved. Your own party are tired of you— your race, ignoble as it is, is already run. You can never be elected Senator in Congress.
The Honorable Tristam Burges, in his own proper person, is out upon us in yesterday's Journal. We read his piece, and could not help thinking 'How like a fawning Publican he looks!' We had not time or room to notice him to-day—but if he will have patience with us, he shall hear from us in due season.
Excursion To Block Island—A fine opportunity of visiting this 'bright-little—tight-little Island,' and enjoying the sea breeze, is offered by the proprietors of the gallant steamer Boston, Capt. Comstock, on Monday next. The natural cascades off the Point, will be found to be highly amusing and edifying.
MILITARY Excursion.—We understand that the United Independent Company of Volunteers, under command of Col. Ormsbree will leave this city in the steam-boat Rush-Light, on Monday, the 18th inst, at 8 o'clock A. M. for East Greenwich. On their return the day following, they will leave the above named place, in time to breakfast at Apponaug—pass through Old Warwick and Pawtuxet, and arrive in this city about 7 o'clock, P. M.
We have many articles on hand which we find it impossible to publish in this day's paper. We must also crave the indulgence of our advertising friends.
