BOSTON, June 7.
The wise decision of the Legislature yesterday, will diffuse pleasure and satisfaction through every federal part of the United States; as the inevitable consequence of the patriotic measure will be, to continue JOHN ADAMS in the Chair of Presidency of the United States; and defeat the insidious designs of those whose tongues are loud in his praises: but whose hearts, one and indivisible, are devoted to him who regards it as a matter of indifference, whether a Man believes in "Twenty Gods;" or denies the existence of any God.
Every one who has read the Speech, and witnessed the conduct of M'KEAN, on being elected Governor of Pennsylvania, and that of our excellent First Magistrate; will readily pronounce the contrast which exists between a high-flying self-denominated "Republican;" and a true "Republican Federalist." and may form a fair and just estimate of the principles and practice of the two parties from this criterion. The one darts upon us like a flaming tyrant to blast with unrelenting vengeance all his political adversaries; to scatter fire-brands and destruction among those who did not vote for him, or to doom to beggary and ruin those who have grown gray in the service of their country. And in this he only gives a specimen of what all the inferior tyrants would do had they the power; and what they will do when they have it. On the other hand, we see the Federal Chief Magistrate of Massachusetts allured by the unthought suffrages of his fellow-citizens to quit a chosen for an elevated station, in the hope of promoting their happiness and welfare. We find him firm, pacific and conciliatory-casting no reflections on his political opponents; but happy in the measure of harmony which prevails throughout the state.
