THE WHEELING GATHERING,

Preparations on the most extensive scale are making by the City of Wheeling for the grand Whig Festival and Gathering at that place on the 3d of September. It will be beyond question, the most magnificent spectacle of the kind which has ever occurred in Virginia, at which the people must be counted by acres not by figures. We understand that 30,000 are expected, and among these we hope will be a due proportion from Eastern Virginia, for we, separated by distance and mountains, know too little of our brethren of the North West: and they know too little of us. The Yeomanry of Virginia in her Eastern and Western extremes, know less of each other than any two portions of the American People. A great National and Republican cause now unites the men the bonds of a common sympathy, councils, patriotic hopes and action, and we hope there will be many citizens of Eastern Virginia at Wheeling, to assure our brethren of the North West, that their faith is our faith, that their determination to shake off the yoke of the Spoilers, is our determination, and that with the blessing of Providence, we make no doubt in November next, of the Whig flag floating in triumph over old Virginia, from the Potomac to the Roanoke, and from the Atlantic to the Blue Ridge. This, let them be assured, is no empty boast. but a truth which 70 days will fully establish. and which the followers of the Federal power will not be so impudent as to call in question. Old Virginia is Whig to the core. Let our North Western brethren be assured that we of the East have done, are doing and will do our duty. and that if their efforts and success at all correspond to ours and to the report which fame makes of their generous exertions in the cause of Liberty, THE DAY IS OURS by a triumphant majority.
