Full Text

Strychnine Whiskey.—The bad effect of the liquors consumed in California is not more chargeable to their alcoholic ingredients than to poisonous matters which are incorporated in them. Some of the most virulent poisons, such as the oil of almonds, are used for coloring and flavoring the fluids thus adulterating them in such a manner as to act most injuriously upon the human system.—The frequent cases of temporary insanity and attempts at suicide are often chargeable to the facts to which we have alluded. A law should at once be enacted to prevent the use of poisons for admixture with any liquors which may be used for a general beverage.
