Yellow Jacket.—There has been considerable boasting about fast work in sinking shafts in many of our mines, but the best work we have heard of is that just completed in the south shaft of the Yellow Jacket, which is one of the largest in the State. A depth of 103 feet was sunk in twenty-six days, making three feet eleven and one-half inches per day. In the north shaft nearly as good work has been done. The ore in the winze in the south works is said to be of a very superior quality; the winze, we understand, is sunk on the ledge to a considerable depth below the lower level. When the present level which is now being started is run in, a large amount of excellent ore will be taken out. The Yellow Jacket is one of the most systematically worked claims in the State, and will be a good paying mine for many years to come without doubt.
